What’s it all about?

Hurstville City Council, with funding support from the Australian Government’s Water for the Future initiative and the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage, has constructed a stormwater harvesting and reuse scheme within the Hurstville golf course. The construction of the $2.6 Million project began in the middle of 2012 and was completed in February 2014.

Sydney experiences king tides twice a year. King tides are extra high tides that occur when the Earth, Sun and Moon align and their combined gravitational force is at its strongest. King tides almost always occur at night, so they are only seen by the keenest tide watchers.

Cup and Saucer Wetlands is the first step in Sydney Water’s Cooks River Naturalisation Project. It was built in 2010 and provides a habitat for local birds and aquatic life. The wetland cost $900,000 to build and filters water from Cup and Saucer Creek. The Cooks River Project has three more naturalisation sites planned. These sites are areas along the Cooks River banks at Belfield, Canterbury and Campsie.

Towra Point Nature Reserve in Botany Bay, Sydney, was presented with a Grey Globe Award by the World Wetland Network at the 11th Ramsar Conference of Parties in Bucharest on Saturday 7 July. The Award is for wetlands under threat.
